Here’s some quick facts about the NPI - Stage 2:
- A Queensland Government project.
- Approximately 48km of underground, reverse-flow pipeline.
- Pipeline extends from the Noosa water treatment plant at Cooroy to NPI - Stage 1 at Eudlo.
- Pipeline includes:
- one balance tank
- pump stations
- upgrades to an existing water quality facility.
- Majority of route located within existing public utility easements (approximately 68 per cent) or road reserves (approx 24 per cent.)
- Scheduled to be completed by 31 December 2011.
Environmental impact statement
- In September 2007, NPI - Stage 2 was declared a significant project under the State Development and Public Works. Organisation Act 1971 for which an environmental impact statement (EIS) is required.
- The Terms of Reference (ToR) were released in December 2007.
- The EIS was released for public comment on 17 January 2009.
- Public comment closed on 9 March 2009.
- The supplementary environmental impact statement was approved by the Coordinator-General in December 2009.
- The EIS received Australian Government approval on Friday, 12 February 2010.
- Constuction on the NPI - Stage 2 began on Monday, 15 February 2010.
