In the planning, design and construction of the Northern Pipeline Interconnector (NPI) - Stage 2, the Northern Network Alliance (NNA) will deliver an innovative and sustainable water solution for the future.
In doing so, we make eight key promises to our community.
1. Jobs and business
We will:
- provide jobs for the region by employing up to 60 per cent of our staff from the local area
- provide training and ongoing staff development in line with the Queensland Government's training and indigenous employment policies
- implement a local industry participation plan to ensure local subcontractors and suppliers are given full, fair and reasonable opportunities to quote or tender for subcontract work.
2. Environment
We will:
- comply with all relevant federal, state and local government environmental approvals
- complete a rigorous environmental impact statement to assess the social, economic and environmental impacts of this project
- conduct an independent audit of environmental management systems to ensure compliance.
3. Construction
We will:
- develop landowner construction and rehabilitation plans in consultation with each directly affected property owner, documenting how land will be rehabilitated if disturbed from construction
- minimise the impact of construction on the community by managing issues such as dust, noise and vibration at its source
- only clear and grade land in the pipeline corridor once we are ready to lay pipe
- manage top soil in consultation with landowners. Where possible, we will not remove topsoil from the pipeline corridor. In some instances where topsoil on the corridor would be a safety or environmental risk, it will be removed, stored and, as far as practical, returned to the property from which it was taken.
4. Rehabilitation
We will:
- meet all environmental obligations during the rehabilitation phase of the project
- ensure all properties are rehabilitated in accordance with landowner construction and rehabilitation plans and to a standard that is as good or better than when we started work
- rehabilitate properties as soon as the pipeline construction allows.
5. Safety
We will:
- design and construct NPI - Stage 2 to work towards zero harm to our workers and the community
- comply with all workplace health and safety legislation.
6. Cultural heritage
We will:
- recognise the Gubbi Gubbi people as the traditional owners of the land
- develop and implement a cultural heritage management plan in consultation with the Gubbi Gubbi people
- work with the Gubbi Gubbi people to ensure the project has minimal impact on identified cultural heritage.
7. General communication
We will:
- treat all stakeholders with courtesy and respect
- provide relevant and timely information to all stakeholders about construction activities through meetings, regular newsletters, fact sheets, e-updates, a dedicated website and our Freecall number: 1800 243 998
- respond to all calls to the Freecall number within 48 hours
- respond to all written correspondence (email and post) within five working days.
8. Issues and complaints
We will:
- treat all issues and complaints confidentially and with respect
- investigate the matter thoroughly and objectively
- keep you informed
- apologise if we have made a mistake and put right what has gone wrong as quickly as possible
- use information gathered during any investigation to improve in the future.
You can register an issue or complaint by telephone, post or e-mail. If you are unhappy with actions taken by the NNA to resolve any issues or complaints, please put your complaint in writing and direct as follows:
